II believe the Guyana stamp issued in 1990 $15.30 with the inscription of “Mail between Curacao & Netherland” is designed after a aquarelle made by the Dutch artist Jacob Spin (1806-1875) which shows the schoenerkof (schooner-koff) MONNICKENDAM and VERWACHTING in the estuary of Texel in the Netherlands.
The MONNICKENDAM according the web-site of the Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam who owns the painting is depict, with on the left of her the VERWACHTING not visible on the stamp, also there are in few small alternations in the design between the stamp and the painting.
If any of this two ships ever had been in Curacao is doubtful, koff-ships were mostly used for coastal trade in Europe.
MONNICKENDAM, named after the place Monnikendam (new spelling) in the Netherlands was built as a wooden hulled koff on the yard of Wed. P. Kater & Zoonen, Monnikendam for J.G. Boerlage, Monnikendam, Netherlands.
13 September 1825 launched.
Tonnage 116 ton. Net tonnage 52 last
Made her maiden voyage under command of Captain V.H. Kramer.
Till 1850 in service for the same owner.
11 October 1850 sold by public auction in Monnikendam.
Fate not sure but it is believed that her hull was used as a barge or scrapped.
