FURST MENSCHIKOV

Built as paddle-steamer on the old yard at Turku, Finland.
Launched under the name FÜRST MENSCHIKOV, named after the General Governor in Finland A.S. Menschkov.
Dim. 39.5 x 6.5m.
Carried two gaff sails.
Engine?, Speed 9 knots.

She was the first steamship built in Finland, and after completing used in the service from Turku to Stockholm via Mariahamn on the Aland Islands.
She was fitted out with three saloons, one for ladies which could accommodate 10, a 16 men gentlemen saloon and a dining room for 10 people in one sitting. The saloons did have two or three hammocks. There was one fourth berth cabin for a family and two two-berth cabins.
Crew 18 –20.

October 1836 she sailed for the first time from Stockholm with on board 13 passengers, and the mail.
A deck-passenger paid 8 roubles for the voyage from Turku to Stockholm and a first class ticket cost 30 roubles.
Passage time 18 hours not included the stop in Mariahamn.
There was every week one crossing in each direction.
She was also used in the passenger-mail service from Helsinki to Tallinn.
The Finish stamp is designed after a water-colour from the collection of the town Helsinki.

Till so far her fate not found.
