She was built as a gunboat under yard No 176 by the yard of Wm Potter & Sons in Liverpool for the Royal Navy.
26 November 1898 launched as the HMS BRAMBLE she was the lead ship of the Bramble class, of which four were built.
Displacement 710 tons, dim. 55 x 10 x 2.4m. (draught).
Powered by two sets of triple expansion steam engines, 1,300 hp, twin shafts, speed 13 knots.
Armament 2 – 4 QF Mk III guns, 4 – 12 pdr. QF guns and 6 – 0.45 inch Maxims guns.
Bunker capacity 143 ton coal.
Crew 88.
28 June 1900 commissioned.
She received the same day orders to proceed to the China station together with her sister the BRITOMART.
They stayed most of her career on the China Station till the end of 1915 when she was moved to the Persian Gulf in support of the Mesopotamian campaign. She spent also some time in Bombay for refits.
05 October 1919 decommissioned.
26 January 1920 sold for scrap in Bombay, India.
