FILUKA

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Nov 15, 2015 8:15 pm

Lebanon issued one stamp in 2015 for Euromed. The stamp features the Lebanon traditional boat and the logo of Euromed Postal. I could not find much information on the stamp, it looks that it is a fishing port of which there are 29 in the Lebanon, there are many small craft shown on the stamp.
The boats depict are fishing-boats some have a heap of nets on the boat, the type I believe in the foreground is a FILUKA but there are more types in use, and I have not any idea of the other boats type.

Aak to Zumbra, a Dictionary of the World’s Watercraft gives on the FILUKA.

A beamy double ended fishing boat in Lebanon. Curved, strongly raked stem; raked sternpost; straight keel; considerable sheer. Decked at ends; outboard rudder; tiller slots through rudderhead. Rowed and sailed; now mostly motorized.
Crew 1 – 3.
Length 3 – 9m, beam ca. 3,3m
