Within a two-colour frame, shows a scene from the Palio del Golfo della Spezia, a rowing race featuring boats similar to the traditional Italian double-ended fishing boat, or gozzo top right is the standard of the Palio, awarded to the winning neighbourhood, which is entitled to keep it for a year. The words “PALIO DEL GOLFO DELLA SPEZIA”, “ITALIA”, and the denomination “€ 0,95” complete the stamp

On the “gozzo” is given by Aak to Zumbra a dictionary of the World’s Watercraft: The “gozzo” is found all along the Italian coast, but most notably off the Ligurian shores in northwestern Italy, Sicily, Naples and Sardinia; also reported from the Dalmatian coast. General-purpose boat that engages in fishing, transporting produce, or working as a pilot boat, “bumboat”, or serves as a pleasure craft. Many variations, but characteristically open, beamy and with a wedge-shaped stern. Stem may rake forward, or be concave or rounded with marked tumble home high stemhead, recurved on the sharp-sterned type.
Carvel-planked; now often of fiberglass. Keel, frequently bilge keels; strong sheer. Those used in open waters are fuller and higher-sided. Two benches; grating at the bow. Some designed to be rowed by 3 or 4 people; others may set a lateen, sprit or lugsail to a portable mast, and occasionally a jib to a slender bowsprit; now mainly motorized.
Reported lengths 3.7-12m; eg length 3.75, beam 1.5m, depth 0.65m.
