The stamp shows a bow of a Gebo Canoe from Milne Bay
There is a wide variety of canoe types in this area, from small outrigger canoes to large sailing canoes. The Gebo canoe showed here (hollowed out) is almost only found in Milne Bay. Some of these canoes are over 60 feet long and can carry up to 16 people. They are usually made from cedarwood. The high bow shows one of the finest examples of Papuan carving. The Gebo canoe is primarily a fast paddle canoe and can reach speeds of 5 miles per hour.
