Adviesjacht (Аdvice hunt)
An advisory yacht «De Snelheit»,seen from the starboard side. Advisory yachts were built for speed. They served the navy and were suitable for passing between ships to exchange advice. The ship depicted is a cutter, a type of ship primarily used by the English and Dutch as advisory yachts.
It was formerly a small, fast and lightly armed warship “Aviso” that served in the navy to transmit messages or orders or to carry out reconnaissance.
The design of the stamp was created from an engraving. This etching is part of the series "Various Types of Dutch Vessels = Dutch Boatmen." This series of 84 etchings (divided into seven subseries of twelve prints) was created by Gerrit Groenewegen between 1786 and 1801.
