The first ship on a Spanish stamp

Post by Miguel Gil » Fri Jan 30, 2026 5:04 pm

The first time a ship appeared on a Spanish stamp was on September 15, 1926, in a series issued to commemorate the flight of the Plus Ultra aircraft,a Dornier Do J Wal,which completed the first transatlantic flight between Spain and South America (Argentina),in January 1926 with a crew of Spanish aviators.
The ships that provided logistical support, communications liaison, and emergency cover were the cruiser "Blas de Lezo" and the destroyer "Alsedo”.

The ship appears on the horizon with a very schematic design in the lower right, making it difficult to identify.

The stamps:
Spain
1926: 5, 10, 25 ,50 cents and 1 pts
1927: Various overprints appear
