The royal yacht Dannebrog was built in 1931, Launched 10 Oct 1931 at the naval dockyard and became part of the navy in 1932, replacing the previous royal yacht of the same name, a paddle steamer from
1879. Dannebrog, which is at the disposal of the monarch, has a displacement of 1045GT 548nt L259’ B34’1”. 2 B&W diesels 1800bhp 2 screws 14kn. Arm two37mm guns compl 59. Steel hull. Schooner rigged.
She is often used by the royal couple for their summer visits
to Danish provincial towns, but has often been in Greenlandic waters as well, a use of
the ship which was certainly not planned, when she was built, but which was started by
King Frederik IX, who himself was a naval officer, and which has since been continued
by his daughter, the now reigning Queen Margrethe II.
