Built as a salvage tug under yard No 349 by Rickmers Rhederei GmbH _Rickmers Werft in Bremerhaven for Bugsier-Reederei und Berguns A.G. Hamburg. She was completed by F. Schichau G.m.b.H., Bremerhaven.
04 March 1968 launched as the OCEANIC one sister the ARCTIC.
Tonnage 2,046 grt, 138 net, 1,575 dwt., dim. 87.58 x 14., 30 x 7.27m, draught 6.3m, length bpp. 78.10m.
Powered by 2 – 12-cyl. KHD diesel engines, 6,405 bhp each, twin shafts, speed 20.5 knots.
Bollard pull 150 ton.
Accommodation for 26-28 men. Normal crew 13 men.
06 June 1969 delivered to owner.

At that time she and her sister were the strongest and largest tugs in the world.
Between salvage jobs she was on station in Cape Town, South Africa.
She and her sister took part in towing voyages of the platforms CORMORANT A in 1977, STAFJORD C in 1984 and EKOFISK PROTECTIVE BARRIER 1989.
1985 The two main engines were replaced by two 12-cyl. KHD diesel engines, each 6,600 bhp each.
Bollard pull 189 tons.
From 1987 till 1990 laid up for increasing periods between jobs.
1990 Laid up.
1996 Returned to service, and on charter for the German Government as Emergency Towing Vessel North Sea.
2010 In service, same name and owners IMO No 6901490.
