Built as a passenger cruise vessel under yard No B31 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique (Alsthom), St Nazaire, France for Splendour of the Seas Inc. (managed by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.)
17 June 1995 launched as the SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS, one sister the LEGEND OF THE SEAS.
Tonnage 69,130 grt, 37,796 net, 5,200 dwt. Dim. 264.26 x 32,00 x 10.45m., draught 7.30m. Length bpp. 221.5m.
Powered by five Wärtsilä-Vasa 12V46 diesel engines, 77,109 hp. (57,500 kW), twin screws, speed 24 knots.
Accommodation for 2,076 passengers, crew 720.
15 March 1996 delivered to owners, under Norway flag and registry, homeport Oslo.

29 March 1996 christened by Mrs. Lisa Wilhelmsen at Southampton.
31 March 1996 maiden cruise from Southampton to Barcelona.
May 2005 transferred to Bahamas flag, with homeport Nassau.
January 2001 underwent a refurbishment.

On 22 October 2015 whilst sailing on a cruise in the Mediterranean, SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS suffered an engine-room fire, which was extinguished after 2 hours by the crew. There were no injuries reported by Royal Caribbean and the ship continued its journey to the port of Venice.

SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS spent her last season with Royal Caribbean International by sailing from Dubai on 7-8 night cruises, visiting destinations such as Muscat, Oman and Abu Dhabi throughout November 2015 - March 2016.

April 2016 sold to U.K. Cruise Charter I Ltd, Limassol, Cyprus who then sub-chartered her to Thomson Cruises, with the final sailing for Royal Caribbean departing on 4 April 2016. The ship was renamed TUI DISCOVERY and was based in Palma, Mallorca and Bridgetown, Barbados starting in June 2016 after refurbishment. She was originally going to be renamed THOMSON DISCOVERY, but the name was changed to TUI DISCOVERY as part of their rebranding.
In October 2017 she was renamed MARELLA DISCOVERY.

2022 In service. IMO No 9070632. Homeport Valletta, Malta.
