The stamp is designed from an oil painting by Whitcombe, dated 1807, of a shipwreck off Whitby, Yorkshire, U.K. with a lighthouse in the distance.
The painting shows the ships name and registry port on the stern as PRESIDENT from Boston, Lincolnshire.
The stamp designer has changed the stamp design, which shows the brig’s foremast at an angle and her mainmast broken off.
Till so far not any details have been found on the ship.
The coastguardsman on the stamp, in the uniform of 1822, was added by the stamp designer.
