Portland.
Paddlewheel steamer built by New England Shipping Co., Bath, Maine. 1890. Owners Portland Steam Packet Co.
L 291ft, Beam 42ft, Draft 11ft.
Built of wood, 2 funnels and two masts.
Engines: 1 one cylinder walking beam by Portland Co.
Boilers ; 2 by Bath Iron Works speed 15 knots.
Gross tonnage 2,283 carrying 700 passengers.
Sunk Nov 26, 1898 in a storm. Location: North Atlantic off Massachusetts in the Stellwagen National Marine Sanctuary. 190 passengers and crew killed, no survivors.
