TJALFE

The stamp depicts only the figurehead of the TJALFE, now-a-days the figurehead is on display at the Marine Museum, Kronborg, Denmark.

She was built as a two masted wooden sailing vessel by the yard of P. Brandt, Troense, Denmark for a shipping company in Copenhagen.
Launched as the TJALFE.
1853 Completed, brig rigged.

Used in the trade to the Mediterranean and Brazil under command of Captain Colsmann.
1857 Sold to the Royal Greenlandic Trade, Svendborg. and rebuilt in Copenhagen.
Tonnage 222.07 grt, 185.80 net, 216 dwt. Dim. 98.1 x 25.0 x 12.9ft.
25 April 1858 she made her first voyage for her new owners from Denmark to Greenland under command of Captain G.M. Brockdorff, under his command she sailed until 1883.
During two winters the TJALFE overwintered in Greenland both at Sukkertoppen first in 1876 and then again in 1896.
1883- 1890 Under command by Captain L. Ipsen.
Then till sold in 1904 she was under command of various captains.
1878 She made her fastest roundtrip from Denmark to Sukkertoppen and Holsteinborg back to Denmark in 70 days.
1892 She made her longest roundtrip from Denmark via Sukkertoppen, Godthaab and Frederickshaab in 179 days.
02 October 1904 she returned from her last voyage to Denmark, and after arrival laid up.
All together she made 68 voyages between Denmark and Greenland.
1908 till 1909 used as a fishery expedition ship to the Davis Strait under leadership of Professor Adolph S. Jensen, for this expedition the TJALFE was fitted out with a DAN auxiliary engine of 50 hp. She became the first such ship in Greenland waters.
1910-1915 used as an accommodation and canteen ship for workers at the fort of Saltholm (Flakfortet).
1916 Sold to the Kjøbenshavn Amatør-Sejlklup, berthed along the Langelinie, Copenhagen and used as a clubhouse, she replaced HVALFISKEN.
.1950 Scrapped.
