The stamp is designed after a painting made by Samuel Walters (1811-1882) and shows the vessel ELIZABETH GRANGE in the Mersey River at Liverpool.
Most probably she is the barque ELIZABETH GRANGE off 351 tons built in 1845 in Pwllheli, North Wales.
Apparently she was owned by someone called Melhuish in Liverpool around 1848.
In 1850 she was owned by Jones and registered in Pwllheli, according Lloyds Registers.
1850 Under command of Captain Williams.
In 1851 she was bound on a voyage to the west coast of South America. Apparently she had made a number of voyages to this part of the world.
In Lloyds Register 1852-1853 the ELIZABETH GRANGE was no longer listed.
http://www.kent.nb.ca/riveroffire/page20.htm has:
In 1850 the barque ELIZABETH GRANGE, driven from? (most probably driven on) the roadstead reef at Richibucto River, New Brunswick, Canada. Total loss, but no lives lost. Most probably the same ship.
Paraguay 1976 10gs sg?, scott1677f.
