GALLIA paddle steamer 1913

Built as a paddle steamer by Escher Wyss in Zurich for the Dampfschiffgeselschaft des Vierwaldstättersees (DGV).
02 June 1913 launched as the GALLIA. Named after the district Gallia in France.
Displacement 328, 9 ton. Dim. 62.85 x 14.5 x 2.8m., draught maximum 1.53m.
Powered by a compound diagonal steam engine, 1,085 hp, speed 31 km/h.
Passenger accommodation for 850 passengers. Crew 6.
19 June first trials.
10 July 1913 in service.

She was and is still the fastest steamship on the Swiss lakes.
In service on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.
There were plans in 1920 to convert her from a two to a three deck ship, but the plan did not materialize.
1936/37 Major alternations were made, and in 1945.
Between 1952/53 she was converted from burning coal to heavy fuel oil.
Between 2001 to 2004 she underwent a renovation and a new boiler was fitted in.
2011 Still in service and classified as a cultural asset of national Swiss importance.
