CALEDONIA tall ship

Built as a side fishing steam trawler under yard No 779 by Cock, Welton & Gemmell Ltd., Beverley, England for H/f Akurey, Reykjavik, Island.
15 April 1947 launched as the AKUREY fishing No AK 77.
Tonnage 654 grt, 245 net. Dim. 194.5 x 29.4 x 15.1ft.
Powered by a 3-cyl. triple expansion steam engine, manufactured by C.D.Holmes & Co., Hull.
21 July 1947 delivered to owners.

1953 Sold to Baejarutgerd Akraneskaupstadar, Akranes, Iceland.
1954 Sold to Government of Iceland.
1961 Sold to Baejarutgerd, Akranes.
1964 Sold again to the Government of Iceland.

1967 Sold to Erling Pettersen, Tromso, Norway renamed in AKUROY.
1968 Transferred to Erling Pettersen PR, Tromso, Norway, and renamed PETREL. Her steam-engine replaced by a DEUTZ SBV8M545 diesel engine, 1,500 hp.
1976 Sold to Techno Maritime Ltee, Ottawa, Canada and renamed in PETREL V.
1977 Refitted in a research vessel, tonnage 955 grt.
1984 Sold to Techno-Navigation Ltee, St John’s, Canada.
1999 Sold to?, renamed CAPE HARRISON.
2002 Sold to Canada Sailing Expeditions Inc., Halifax and fitted out as a sail expedition vessel, renamed CALEDONIA. Barquentine rigged. Sail area 17,000 square feet.
Tonnage 810 grt, 243 net, dim 55.17 x 9.17 x 6.86m.
February 2008 in service, offering 4, 7, 10 and 14 day voyages, with maximum 76 guests. Crew 22. During the summer months at the Canadian East Coast, while during the winter months she is stationed in the Caribbean.
2012 Laid up in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada and she is for sale. IMO No 5007508.
