Built as a guided missile corvette by Lorient Naval Dockyard for the Peruvian Navy.
28 June 1979 launched as the SÀNCHEZ CARRIÓN (CM-26). One of the Velarde class of which six has been built for the Peruvian Navy in France.
Displacement 560 tons standard, 610 ton full load, dim. 64 x 8.35 x 2.6m. (draught).
Powered by four SACM AGO 240V16M7 diesel engines, 17,424 shp., four shafts, speed ?knots.
Range by a speed of 16 knots, 2,500 mile.
Armament: 4 – Exocet MM-38 SSMs. 1 – OTO Melars 76/62 compact gun. 1 – OTO Melare Twin 40L70 DARDO compact gun. 1 – MGP-86 mount for Igla SAM.
Crew 36, has accommodation for 10 persons more.
14 September 1981 commissioned.
The class is a French designed warship and was ordered by Peru in 1976 by Société Francaise de Construction Navale (SFCN), three were built by the company’s own dockyard , while the other three under which the SANCHEZ CARRION were subcontracted to Lorient Naval Dockyard.
Originally the ships carried pennant No P-101 to P-106 but were modified to CM-21 to CM-26.

In 1998 a contract was signed with MTU to re-engine the class, and she are fitted out now with
4 MTU 12V595 diesel engines, 22,000 shp, speed 34 knots.
