The landing ship depict on this stamp is one of the French Batral class, the plans were bought by the Chilean Navy, and two vessel were built after this plans the CNS CHACABUCO (95) and RANCAGUA (R92) on the ASMAR shipyard in Talcahuano, Chile.
RANGAGUA was launched on 06 March 1982 and delivered on 08 August 1983 while the CHACABUCO was launched on 16 July 1985 and delivered on 15 April 1986.
Both have a displacement of 873 standard and 1,409 full load. Dim. 79.4 x 13 x 2.5m. (draught).
Powered by two SACM Wärtsilä UD33 V12 M4 diesels, 3,600 bhp, speed 16 knots.
Range 5,500 mile by a speed of 13 knots.
Armament 2 – 40mm AA guns and 2 – 12.7mm machine guns, 2 – 81mm mortars.
After landing platform suitable for a Super Puma helicopter.
Accommodation for 138 troop.
Crew 44.
They are able to ferry over 400 tons of material in the hangar or on deck.
The class have a flat bottom which make it easy to beach the vessel on a sand beach for loading and unloading.
2012 Both are still in service in the Chilean Navy.
