La NORMANDIE

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Jul 29, 2012 4:36 am

The paddle steamer La NORMANDIE on which deck the body of Napoleon was transported from Cherbourg to the mouth of the River Seine, was under command of Captain Bambine that voyage.

She was built in Blackwall on the River Thames by the yard of Miller, Ravenshill & Co. what year, and under which name I could not find out.
Under French flag and registration she carried the name La NORMANDIE and was owned by Gallant et Vieillard and with homeport Le. Havre.
Tonnage 190 tons, dim. 55 x 7m.
Engine power, steam engine 120 hp.
Could carry 1,000 passengers.

Was used in the daily passenger-cargo service between Rouen and Le Havre.

Fate unknown.

St Helena 1990 38p sg584, scott547. (the sailing vessel is La BELLE POULE)
