Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Jan 06, 2013 7:39 pm

The “corvette” (sloop of war) was a light armed sailing vessel in use by almost all navies of the world of the 17th and 18tyh century.
She were classed just below a frigate.
Mostly used for reconnaissance, advice boat or as escort, but also used to carry material from one port to a other.
Until 1800 armed with less than 20 guns all mounted at deck, after 1800 armed with around 30 guns.
Mostly three masted and ship rigged, on the stamp is she barque rigged.
