The “Sakoleva” is a Greek word describing a type of spritsail and also a type of ship which carried this sail and used in the eastern Mediterranean. As a cargo vessel mostly used between the Greek Islands, to Italy and into the Black Sea.
There are different hull types and she was mostly used as coasters, fishing and sponge fishing vessel.
In early times the type was armed and used by Greek and Turkish corsairs.
Till today some smaller types exist.
She did have a low freeboard which often was raised by canvas watercloth.

She has a straight keel with rounded bilges and a flat floor.
Mostly complete decked.
Outside rudder with a helm.
The type on the stamp stepped two mast with the mainmast raked forward, she is decked with a hatch coming, and probably she was used as cargo vessel.
The mizzen mast raked aft.
On the stamp it looks she has two spritsails, which looks if the design of the stamp is made after a replica.
The “sakoleva” on the stamp design carried a topmast which set a square topsail and a topgallant.
The mizzen mast carried a jib-headed or lateen sail sheeted to a bumkin.
Crew 3.
Dim. length between 7.7 – 23m. e.g. length overall 12.5m, on keel 9.3m, beam 3.7m, depth 1.25m. She had a shallow draught.
