In 1999 the Dutch Post issued a stamp which shows us four skûtsjes, the left in the white band a unknown skûtsje when she were used as a cargo vessel, on the right three skûtjes how she are used today for racing.
On the sailmark I can only identified the skûtsje with the two white sails as the PETER PAN.
She was built as an inland cargo vessel (type tjalk) in 1913 by the Piip yard of Bauke Berends Roorda in Drachten, Netherland for skipper Gjalt van der Schuit in Rottevalle, Netherland.
Launched as the DE DRIE GEBROEDERS (The Three Brothers).
Tonnage 36.93 ton, dim. 18.75 x 3.55 x 1.06m.
Many of these vessels were used in the Netherlands on the lakes and canals, one hold with on the after ship a deckhouse were the skipper with his wife and children lived. When I was young many of these ships past our house under sail or pulled, loaded with all kind of cargo. In later times mostly she did have a small pusher tug.
10 January 1924 she was sold to Jacob Gjalts van der Schuit (a son?) at Rottevalle.
Later was she sold to Corneles de Jong, and she was renamed in RISICO, who sold later the ship to his son Hermanus de Jong.
In the end she was used as a houseboat in the Asservaart (Asser Canal) by Cornelis de Jong.
1961 Sold to the Stichting De Sneker Pan (Society the Sneker Pan), Sneek. She was renamed in SNEKER PAN.
From that time she was a participant in the summer skûtsje race” see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sk%C3%BBtsje
Every year in July/August 14 vessels take part in an 11 days SKS race on different lakes in the Province Friesland, and the best contender in all this races is the “champion”
1992 Was she lengthened with a length of 1.30m. From that time she sailed faster and was a big concurrent for the other ships in the “skûtsje” match racing.
2012 The SNEKER PAN under skipper Douwe J Visser won that year the SKS race.
Netherlands 1997 1Fl sg1848, scott968. She is the vessel in the middle of the stamp with the sailmark the Waterpoort (Watergate).a famous old gate in the town Sneek.
