Craft constructed of midstems of date palm leaves. Stalks buried in moist beach sand for many days to make them pliable. Bottom and flooring created by bundles of stalks, with layers of the butt ends of the palm leaves placed in between to serve as flotation. Sides built up onto bamboo "ribs." Pointed ends formed by drawing bottom stems upward and bundling them together with the side stems. Boat not caulked, and water seeps in between the bottom and the floor. Generally rowed with 2 oars, each secured by a rope to a tholepin. Lateen sail may be set to a light mast; sailed in either direction. Reported lengths 2-3m.
