She was taken over in 1917 by the US Government. A photograph in the Peabody Museum shows her with troops, but the museum has no record of service during WW1. After the War she was remodelled for Panama RR SS Co. and renamed GENERAL GEORGE W GOETHALS. Listed in LRS 1925 as BOOKER T WASHINGTON and owned by Black Cross Nav & Trading Co. LRS of 1926 is listed again as GENERAL G W GOETHALS and owned by Winthrop, Waite & Co. New York. Sold on 27th August 1926 to Munson SS Co and renamed MUNORLEANS. Broken up in 1936. Stamp shows her with GENERAL W C GORGAS in Pacific Terminal Dry Dock No 1. On 16th April 1917 - Panama 1918. 50c. 1b. SG181-182 (LB3/142. T Broadley)
