TRIUMPH 1625

The wooden warship TRIUMPH was built by Deptford Dry-Dock as a King Ship.
03 February 1623 ordered.
1623 Launched as the TRIUMPH.
Tonnage tons when built: 582/76 tons, dim. 110 ft on keel, 36.6 ft beam.
Armament in 1652, 60 guns.
Crew 300 in 1652.
1625 Commissioned under command of Lord Willoughby.
Her maiden voyage was to Cadiz, Spain.

During her career she was very busy a fought in all battles of the Anglo-Dutch Wars.
1627 Was she under command of the Duke of Buckingham and Captain John Watts at La Rochelle.
1649 Was she Robert Blake and Richard Deane flagship, during the blockade of Kinsale near Cork, Ireland.
May 1652 took part in the Battle of Dover in the First Anglo Dutch War, during the battle the TRIUMPH grounded.
28 September 1652 in the Battle of Kentish Knock a battle between the Dutch and English navy.
30 November 1652 in the Battle of Dungeness.
1653 Under command of Captain Andrew Ball as flagship of Blake and Bourne in the Battle of Portland 18 February 1653. Captain Ball was killed in this battle.
Later command was taken over by Captain Proud as flagship of James Peacock Vice Admiral of the Red at the Battle of Gabbard on 2/3 June 1653.
31 July 1653 in the Battle of Scheveningen in which the TRIUMPH badly was damaged by enemy fireships, Peacock was severely burnt and died later of his burns.
In the winter of 1653/54 at Chatham.
1659 Under command of Captain Robert Clarke for operations in the Sound, Denmark.
03 June 1665 in the Battle of Lowestoft in the Second Anglo Dutch War.
1-4 June 1666 under command of Captain Henry Terne in the Four Day’s Battle, Captain Terne was killed. She was the biggest sea battle during the Second Anglo War and a victory for the Dutch.
The TRIUMPH had 9 men killed and 15 wounded.
30 November 1666 in St James.s Day Fight under Captain Robert Clerke, the battle is also known as the two day battle and it was a victory by the British navy against the Dutch.
28 May 1672 at Battle of Solebay an inconclusively battle between the Dutch and British navy ships.
28 May 1673 and 04 June 1673 at the Battles of Schooneveld and later on 11 August 1673 at Texel, in the Third Anglo-Dutch War, both battles were Dutch victories and saved the Seven Provinces from an Anglo-French invasion.
1688 The TRIUMPH was sold and later broken up.
