BRAZILIAN SAILING WARSHIP OF 17th CENTURY

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Apr 28, 2020 8:35 pm

Brazil issued in 1972 a stamp of a sailing warship, for the Armed Forces, the vessel is till so far not identified. She still carries a spritsail which was in use from the 16 till 18th century.
The vessel is a two-decker from around the 17th century, at that time Brazil was a Portuguese colony, so most probably it is a Portuguese second rate as shown on the painting.
