HERRING FISHING in Finland

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Oct 02, 2024 8:20 pm

Fishing in Finland: ... Herring is the most important fish species in Finland.
The majority of fish are caught using bottom trawls. Fishing
is still the most important source of income, especially in the archipelago.
A total of 6,000 fishermen are registered in Finland. Of the annual catch of
approx. 150 million kilograms, 100 million kilograms are brought in by professional fishermen.
Of this, 90% are herring. Organized advice for the fishing industry began in Finland as early as 1891 on the initiative of the fisheries inspector Oscar Nordqvist.

The most important herring stock for Finland is the herring of the Gulf of Bothnia, in 2024 which accounts for 70–80% of Finland's annual herring catch in commercial fishing. Fish stock assessments deal with herring stocks or their combinations as separate units, whose stock assessments have been found to work well in this way through experience.

Of the fishing trawler depict on the stamp I have not any information.
