A frigate (from Dutch fregat, or fregata from French frégate, German Fregatte- a type of Mediterranean galley) is a type of military vessel (ship). The term comes from the Dutch vrijgetten schip - "free-running ship", designed to perform tasks separately from the main forces of the fleet. Originally, it was a three-masted type of sailing rig (spar) "ship". It was the most balanced platform for seagoing sailing vessels and later served as the basis for specially built frigates, in which certain qualities are improved in favor of specialized ones, for example, such as sailing ships of the line. Due to the versatility of the characteristics of such sailing ships, the term "frigate" has spread to an entire class of universal warships. An example of a modern sailing frigate is the training frigate "Mir"(World). It was the fast frigates that became the forerunners of the fastest ocean sailing ships or "wind eaters" - tea clippers.
The stamp design was created based on an engraving by Gerrit Groenewegen.
