The fishery research vessel Robert Koch was ordered for the East German Government Fisheries Department (V.V.B der Fischwirtschaft) with headquarters at Rostock and is a motorship of 1.109 gross tons (322 net) on dimensions 216 ft.10 in. x 31 ft.10 in. 14 ft.9 in. built at Rostock by Neptunwerft in 1957.

The 25p stamp of East Germany depict the supply hospital vessel for the East German fishery fleet, the ROBERT KOCH.
She was built by the VEB Mathias Thesen Werft at Wismar (Miramar gives as builder Neptun VEB at Rostock and completed by Mathias-Thesen), for the Fischkombinat Rostock at Rostock.
July 1955 launched as the ROBERT KOCH.
Tonnage 1,108.5 grt, 324.5 net, 535 deadweight, dim. 66.1 x 9.7 x 4.5m. (draught)
Two 8 cylinder diesel engines type 8 SV, 1,170hp, speed 13.6 knots.
Cargo hold of 150 cubic meter, was equipped with operation room and all the modern equipment necessary to assist the sick and wounded seamen. Was fitted out with 14 swinging beds for sick patients.
Had a medical crew of one doctor, one assistant doctor and two nurses.
18 July 1956 in service.

She was used with the East German fishing fleets in the waters of the Northern Barents Sea and off Iceland.
1987 Deleted from Lloyds Registry, she was scrapped in Santander, Spain, when?
