HENRY A PAULL

Post by shipstamps » Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:08 pm

She is given as schooner, bark and brigantine in the sources I have. On the stamp is she depict as a barquentine.
Built as a wooden cargo vessel by W.W.Smith in Wilmington, Del. USA for an unknown owner.
Tonnage 497 ton, dim. 145 x 34.8 x 16ft.
Completed in October 1871. Call sign JMHV.

1877 Was she registered at Tauton, Mass. and under command of C. Strauss.
1878 C. G Strange was the master and owned by C.G. Strange & O., still registered at Tauton.
1882 Under the command of C.G. Strange she apparently deliberately wrecked on the sand beach by Sandy Point. The stamp gives the year 1879.
After stranding, black rats came ashore to cause havoc amongst the smaller land and sea birds as well as the islanders crops.

On Tristan da Cunha 1987 17p sg 427.
