Tete

Post by shipstamps » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:45 pm

The old stern-wheel river gunboat Tete makes a delightful picture on the 3 escudos stamp of Mozambique, where she is shown chugging along the Zambesi River. Built by Yarrow in 1904, her displacement was 70 tons, and she was armed with two 3-pounder and three 1-pounder guns. She was replaced in 1920 by the Yarrow-built gunboat of the same name, completed in 1918 and taken out, in parts, to the Zambesi for reassembly. SG592
