Sir Winston Churchill

Post by shipstamps » Fri Aug 22, 2008 5:15 pm

The 20c. stamp is a fine illustration of the Sir Winston Churchill which will give great pleasure to many who have sailed in her. The British Virgin Islands issued two stamps in 1972 commemorating the Royal Silver Wedding anniversary. To the right of the Royal portraits on the stamp is the "Yacht Sir Winston Churchill" according to the Stanley Gibbons Catalogue, but actually the vessel shown is the Malcolm Miller. The stamp designer has shown the Malcolm Miller at the start of the 1970 Tall Ships' Race, from the painting by John Worsley, R.S.M.A.
