One of the modern vessels of the Flota Mambisa, the Oriente, is a motorship built by the Niigata Tekkosho, at Niigata, Japan, in 1959 and engined by the same yard, She has a gross tonnage of 2,333, net tonnage 1,205, and deadweight 3,181. The vessel is designed for heavy lift duties, her machinery being placed aft.

Built in 1959 by Niigata, Tekkosho, #265, for Empresa Consolidada de Navigation, Havana. Freighter, Gt:2333, Nt:1205, Dw:3181 Loa:93,24m. Lbpp:83m. B:13,38m. D:? Niigata diesel:2900 hp. ?kn. IMO.5526497.
On 08-04-1966 during a trip from Havana to Poland collided , 16 miles N.E. of Ameland , during fog, with the Norwegian STAVFJORD , both ships sank , position 053°34,2’N. 005°56,9’E. the crew of both ships (48 men ) were rescued by the Dutch lifeboat GEBROEDERS LUDEN.
