Mr. Peter Crichton thinks that the vessel depict on the left of this stamp is one of the Deutsche Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft “HANSA”.
Stanley Gibbons, Ships on Stamps give the name TRUE VELS, not a ship under that name exist.
I agree with him she is one of that German company, the Stulcken heavy loading gear with the U on top is very recognizable, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derrick#St ... en_Derrick and also the steering pole on the bow is visible, as seen on the photo. At that time there were not many ships with the bridge/accommodation block so far ahead near the bow.
By blowing up the image you can see that the first two letters are TR, there were two ships at that time in the company with names beginning with TR, the TRAUTENFELS and TREUENFELS, she have six sisters but their names did nor start with TR.
The TREUENFELS was the only vessel with a steering pole and bridge superstructure very near the foc’s’le.
The TRAUTENFELS did not have a steering pole, had two pole masts on the foc’s’le and the bridge was located between hatches number 1 and 2.
