HMS SARACEN. 1840. A brig-sloop of 10 guns of the Cherokee class. Built at Plymouth Dockyard 30.1.1831. Became a survey vessel in February 1854 and then was exchanged at Singapore in part payment for the sailing vessel Young Queen which in turn became the HMS Saracen of 1862.

Built as one of the Cherokee class, the class was used for all kind of service in the Royal Navy including as mail packet.
The SARACEN was built as a brig-sloop by the Plymouth Dry-dock in Plymouth for the Royal Navy.
25 March 1823 ordered.
December 1829 keel laid down.
30 January 1831 launched as the HMS SARACEN.
Tonnage 227 ton (bm), dim. 90.8 x 24.7 x 11ft., length of keel 71.1ft, draught 9.11ft.
Armament; 8 – 18 pdrs. carronades, 2 – 6 pdr. guns.
Crew 52 in peacetime.
20 November 1833 commissioned under command of Lieut. Thomas Philip Le Hardy.
30 January 1834 completed.

After completing sailed for the Spanish and Portuguese coast.
April 1837 paid off.
14 April 1837 commissioned, under command of Lieut. Henry Worsley Hill sailed for the Cape of Good Hope and West Coast of Africa.
16 October 1839 took the slaver BRILHANTE, on 21 July 1840 DIANA, 17 August 1840 the SIRENA, on 09 December 1840 BUOAO UNIAO, on 11 December 1840 SAN PAOLO LEANDRO, 19 January 1841 VRACCA and on 22 February 1841 REPUBLICANO. 20 July 1841 paid off.
December 1851 till February 1854 fitted out at Plymouth as a surveying vessel.
18 November 1853 recommissioned under command of Master John Richards for China waters.
30 June 1862 paid off in Singapore?
10 September 1862 sold at Singapore for £7,050. A brig YOUNG QUEEN of about 75 ton being purchased in her place for £3,500 and renamed SARACEN.
Fate of HMS SARACEN completed 1834 is not known.
